While most IIT grads are more than happy to get placed with an MNC or to get a well-paid job in a phoren land, IIT Mumbai alumnus Aditya Gandhi came back after a brief stint in Germany to pursue his passion.

As Aditya gained work exposure in Europe, he saw industrial visits being used as platforms to provide exposure to students. Having been a part of the curriculum for the past many decades, industrial visits weren’t entirely unheard of back in India but they were not very educational

Aditya and Sahiba shared their passion and their mission with YourStory. Here are some excerpts:


Global Digital And Mobile Ad Spending To Touch $235 Billion In 2015: US And China Lead

Advertising expenditure around the world (both online and offline) is expected to get close to $600 billion next year, predicts eMarketer. That means a 6% increase over the global ad spend for CY2014. US, China, Japan, Germany and UK will be the top five spenders on advertising, says the report.

Earlier in the year, eMarketer had put the total ad expenditure across the globe for the year 2013 to be $545.75 billion and predicted it to touch $575.04 in 2014. However, in the latest report, the company has revised the figures for 2013 and 2014 with actual spending.

Ever since Tenzing Sangnyi was crowned the new Miss Tibet three weeks ago, the petite 21-year-old from Manali has had a rough ride. Instead of being elevated to a role model for Tibetan women, as she had hoped to be, she has been relentlessly trolled for not knowing the Tibetan language.

“How can someone without basic language capacity be allowed to represent the beauty of Tibetan women?” howled one online commentator. “It is just [a] big joke and completely wrong…”

The Miss Tibet pageant has always been dogged by controversy. This time, conservative Tibetans are criticising the beauty queen for not knowing their language.

For more than 8,000 years, Tibetan nomads have lived in perfect harmony with their surroundings. They have been the virtual custodians of the vast grasslands of Central Tibet, Amdo (northeast) and Kham (southeast) because they know their survival depends upon this land.

They are pastoral nomads, constantly moving from one place to another to find the best grazing grounds for their herds of yaks, sheep, goats and horses.

“First they pushed the nomads out of their homelands saying they have a backward lifestyle. Fine…what did they do to these nomads after relocating them?”

Online harassment or cyberbullying is now becoming a commonplace phenomenon.

It is not without reason that Pew conducted a full-fledged study to know more about it. 73% of adult internet users had seen someone being harassed online in some form or the other and an astoundingly high 40% of them had been through the dreadful experience themselves. It was also found that age and gender bore a close correlation with harassment and that social networking sites were the most common platforms for cyber bullies.

Age and gender are closely related to online harassment, with young victims being the worst victims.
